Proactive Gender Initiatives (PGI) is a non-governmental organization that promotes effective, and inclusive democracy through human rights advocacy, research, citizens political participation, public interest litigation and innovative approaches.
We are focused on defending and advancing the rights and inclusion of women, children, youth vulnerable persons and marginalized groups.

The Organization was founded by Esther Uzoma Esq. in 2010 to pursue an egalitarian Nigerian society founded on the rule of law and constitutional democracy.

CORE COMPETENCIES
At PGI we understand that to achieve our goals as an organization, we leverage on our core competencies, we have thrived over the years by building on these core competencies. PGI’s core competencies are:
I. Gender and Human Rights Advocacy. PGI utilizes mainstream and social media for aggressive gender and human rights advocacy. Advancement of Human rights of women, children, marginalized groups and vulnerable persons is at the core of our programing. The Goal is to be a robust and dynamic Human rights organization.
Ii. Legal advocacy. PGI sees the law as a tool of social engineering and utilizes it as such through public interest litigation and legal advocacy. This happens to be its pilot programme area. Goal is to be the primus legal advocacy organization.
Iii. Build the capacity of government, its agencies particularly within the criminal justice system. This it does through training and workshops on criminal justice legislations, human rights administration, protection of vulnerable groups, communications, stakeholder management and international best practices etc. Goal is to build strong citizen centered strong institutions.
Iv. Community organizing and active citizenship. PGI keeps the citizens educated and informed on governance and democratic processes as a means of enhancing active citizenship. PGI empowers the citizens through community knowledge sharing sessions. PGI empowers citizens to make informed contributions and choices in discourse that affect them through the use of the Freedom of Information Act 2011. As one of our core values, PGI believes in volunteerism as a panacea for Nation building, and maintains a database of active, capable, willing and passionate citizen volunteers. Goal is to build Africa’s largest female volunteer network.
We are creating a world of equal opportunities where the rights and voices of all women are valued, respected and realized. Women are at the center of our approach. We look at the whole woman and her needs to bring her the support and resources that will help her find her own power and unleash it.
